TRANSLATION METHODS USED IN TRANSLATING ENGLISH HYMNS INTO TOBA BATAK IN BUKU ENDE “SELECTED SONGS”

Abstrak
The thesis is entitled Translation Methods used in translating English Hymns into Toba Batak in Buku Ende “selected songs”. It has two objectives. First, it is aimed at finding out the translation method used to translate the English Hymns. Second, it is aimed at finding out the equivalence meaning that are found in translating the English Hymns. The data collected were analyzed by reading both versions of the lyric of Hymns. The result shows that there are 4 kinds out of 8 translation methods found in translating English Hymns into Toba Batak in Buku Ende selected songs, The total number of data found in translating English Hymns into Toba Batak in Buku Ende are 39. The researcher found 7 semantic translation, 26 adaptation translation, 4 idiomatic translation, and 2 free translation. Adaptation Translation Method is more frequently used because the translator rewrote the original text and adapted to the target language. SL has been adapted to the TL culture.
