EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL CONFLICTS EXPERIENCED BY THE PROTAGONIST IN CECELIA AHERN’S THE TIME OF MY LIFE A Thesis

Abstrak
This thesis aims to describe the forms of conflict experienced by the protagonist in the novel of Cecelia Ahern's The Time of My Life and the forms of the protagonist's responses toward conflicts. The object of this research is a novel titled The Time of My Life by Cecelia Ahern. The writer uses descriptive qualitative methods to describe the conflicts and the responses of the protagonist. The focus of the research is the problems relating to the conflicts faced by the protagonist and the protagonist's responses toward the conflicts. The results showed that the conflicts that experienced by the protagonist are divided into two, namely external conflicts and internal conflicts. Meanwhile the responses made by the protagonist toward the conflict are grouped into two types, namely healthy and unhealthy responses of conflict management. External conflicts experienced by the protagonist are social conflicts while protagonist’s internal conflicts are conflicts in the form of emotional perceived by the protagonist. The healthy responses toward conflicts show courage and being honest and the unhealthy responses indicate desires to ignore conflicts and run away from all the problems.
